Posters of the Belle Epoque”
Technical innovations in printing coupled with creative genius and remarkable craftsmanship enabled the Poster to become the world's first effective method of mass communication.
From Manet's 'Les Chats' to Cheret's 'Saxoleine' and Lautrec's 'Moulin Rouge', you will see inspirational work by artists who made the poster great. The lecture will deal with Lithography, what it is and how Cheret almost single-handedly made it the chosen method of poster artists. Techniques had to be specially invented for lithographic posters - because the artists worked on stone, not on canvas!
